What is poEdit?

The [poEdit] translation tool is a graphical tool to maintain translations for gettext PO files.

Performing a translation

Starting a translation

After downloading it, start poEdit, and choose the File > New Catalog from POT file... menu option. Change from '*.pot' to ., and get the knowledgeTree.po file from the i18n directory within the KnowledgeTree archive.

Translating strings

Select a string to translate, which will update the boxes below the string choice. Enter the translation into the box below the original string.

Repeat until you have translated a number of strings. Save the file using the File > Save menu menu option.

Viewing your translation

To view your translation in KnowledgeTree, you must first make a language pack plugin. Follow the instructions on doing this, and your language can now be chosen at login-time.

Repeat translating strings, saving, and updating the language pack until you want to release your language pack.

Upgrading to a new KnowledgeTree version

New versions of KnowledgeTree will have additional or changed strings. poEdit can integrate these changes into your translation for you. Use the "Catalog > Update from POT file..." menu option to find the updated knowledgeTree.po file in the i18n directory of the new KnowledgeTree release (or alternatively from a special announcement sent to translators when the new release strings are finalised).
