Release Date
2 April 2009
Overview
KnowledgeTree Office Add-in (version 1.0.0 RC2) is a desktop tool for Microsoft Office 2007 that allows KnowledgeTree users to view and work with their organization's KnowledgeTree content from within Microsoft Office 2007 applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
KnowledgeTree Office Add-in provides an alternative, client-side interface to KnowledgeTree from within Microsoft Office 2007 applications. The add-in displays as a side panel within the Microsoft Office 2007 interface, and provides a view of your organization's Microsoft Office 2007 content that is stored in and managed through KnowledgeTree's web-based document management system.
Features:
- add documents to KnowledgeTree
- browse or search KnowledgeTree
- open KnowledgeTree documents for viewing and editing in Microsoft Office, then save your changes directly back to KnowledgeTree (documents are locked for editing in KnowledgeTree while you're editing)
- view, add, and edit document properties, such as the document type, document title, tags, etc.
- email documents out of KnowledgeTree

- KnowledgeTree Office Add-in 1.0.0 RC2 ships as a package of two zipped files:

How to Install KnowledgeTree Office Add-in 1.0.0 RC2
STEP 1: Download KnowledgeTree Office Add-in 1.0.0 RC2
STEP 2: Click here to view step-by-step instructions for installing the server patches and the client tool.
Known Issues
- KOA-424: Permissions must be set on the ktoffice folder
- KOA-412: When attempting to re-open the panel after closing a previous session, the KnowledgeTree button does not activate the panel on the first click.
- KOA-386: A fatal error occurs when the Refresh button is repeatedly pressed.
- KOA-395: SSL Connection (https) and Security Certificates
SSL client/server connections (e.g using 'https:..') require a signed SSL certificate. Self-signed certificates should not be used in environments where server authenticity and the security of user connections to the server are important, and in this case you should obtain a certificate from a commercial Certificate Authority, which allows you to verify the authenticity of the server's certificate.
Using a self-signed certificate for an SSL connection to KnowledgeTree through KnowledgeTree Office Add-in triggers a Microsoft Security Alert. You may either click through the warning to connect to KnowledgeTree using the unrecognized SSL certificate, or cancel the connection until you can obtain a recognized certificate. Note: The KnowledgeTree Installer automatically generates a temporary, self-signed certificate for the KnowledgeTree server when installing KnowledgeTree with SSL support.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, when proceeding with the connection, you need to accept a second security notice before a connection to KnowledgeTree may be established.
When canceling connections at security messages (in IE7 or in IE6), a bug in the beta version of the KnowledgeTree Office Add-in results in the panel reloading a bit slower than necessary; then, when the panel resets, the default server details no longer display. You need to manually re-enter the server address, or close Microsoft Office and then re-open the application to auto-populate the connection details.
Defect Repairs
- KOA-432 - Files with "UPPERCASE" extensions were not displaying in Microsoft Office.
- KOA-436 - Incorrect Action buttons were displaying on some screens
- KOA-435 - The Search bar was not displaying when a user logged in using the 'Tab' and 'Enter' keys on the Login screen.
- PSU-41 - Images in Word documents were not displaying
