What's New
- Zend Server-based Stack
The stack installed version of KnowledgeTree 3.7 Community Edition RC now uses the new Zend Server-based stack – a complete Web Application Server from Zend Technologies.
Zend Server includes Zend’s own enterprise-grade, tested and certified version of PHP, and it includes Zend Optimizer, a toolset for optimizing and extending the capabilities of PHP. Zend Server is purpose-built for running and managing PHP applications that require a high level of performance, reliability, and security.
Running KnowledgeTree on Zend Server significantly enhances performance, and updates and patches for security and stack issues come directly from Zend. Additional levels of commercial support and services are also available with the purchase of each Zend Server license.
On Linux, server-based installers in RPM and DEB packages allow you to easily install and maintain the stack using standard package management technologies.
On Windows, the Zend stack allows KnowledgeTree to be installed and supported on Windows 2008 Server and IIS 6 and 7 (see below).
- New PHP-based Setup Wizard
KnowledgeTree's new PHP-based Setup and Configuration Wizard allows easier configuration of your system. This new Setup Wizard significantly changes the way Knowledge is installed and configured for both stack and source-only installs and upgrades. For stack installs, the new one-click installer configures the underlying platform; then, when KnowledgeTree starts the first time, the web-based Setup Wizard walks you through the configuration and optimization of your system so that is set up and ready to use.
For source installs, the Setup Wizard automates the process of configuring your system, and removes the need for command line interaction. The wizard creates the KnowledgeTree database, loads passwords, and performs dependency checks. If errors are detected, it offers suggestions on how to fix them.
For more information about the new Zend Server stack installer, and the new Setup Wizard, see our new Wiki-based KnowledgeTree Installation and Upgrade Guide.
- Microsoft IIS 6 and 7 Support
Previous versions of KnowledgeTree only supported installation to Apache. The new stack installer allows you to choose whether you want to install KnowledgeTree to Apache, or to an IIS server.
- New Document Property (Metadata) Fields
Date, Multi-Select, and Large Text - KnowledgeTree provides many built-in document property types, and in version 3.7 we have added date fields, large free-form text fields that support more than 255 characters, and a new field type that allows the administrator to set up multi-select lists.
- Document Thumbnails
Thumbnails is a document preview functionality that allows you to hover over a magnifying glass icon to see a thumbnail image of the document. Document Thumbnail imaging is available in KnowledgeTree's web interface, from the folder list, and in the Document Details view.
- Draft CMIS Web Services Interface
This first iteration of our new AtomPub interface allows easier integration of KnowledgeTree with other applications, and is compliant with 0.61 of the draft CMIS specification. CMIS is a proposed web services standard aimed at improving interoperability between different content management systems. Read more about KnowledgeTree's CMIS implementation ...
- OpenSearch Interface
OpenSearch is a collection of simple formats for the sharing of search results. OpenSearch helps search engines and search clients communicate requests and syndicate results. KnowledgeTree now has an OpenSearch interface so that search results generated within KnowledgeTree can be used by other applications.
- Improved Indexing of Microsoft Emails
Indexing of Microsoft email messages is significantly improved in KnowledgeTree 3.7, allowing efficient search within the content of emails uploaded to the KnowledgeTree repository.

Known Issues
- KTS-4505: 'Import from Server location' does not work when IIS user does not have read access to location
This issue has been found to occur on Windows 2008 64-bit with IIS, and may also occur on Windows 2003 64-bit with IIS. A Windows security feature prevents KnowledgeTree's 'Import from Server Location' from working unless permissions on the folder are set to allow 'read' access to the IIS user (IUSR), or when 'Everyone' has the 'read' permission on the folder.
- KTS-4500: Initial MySql services not started during script install RHEL
This issue requires an additional step in the installation procedure for the simple script install on Redhat Enterprise Linux - the additional step has been added to this procedure.
- KTS-4512 PostScript document indexing not functioning on RHEL and Ubuntu because of missing pstotext binary
- KTS-4465: Error 1721 when attempting to run KnowledgeTree MSI on Windows Vista and Server 2008
On Microsoft Windows Vista and Server 2008, in order to install Zend Server, you need to turn off UAC (User Access control). See the following wiki entry for a workaround to this issue - Windows Installer Permissions
- Search on deleted, unarchived documents returns incorrect results
Search criteria isDeleted 'True' and isArchived 'False'. Related call: KTS-4205
- Cross site request forgery and Web-based applications
Be aware that most web-based applications, including KnowledgeTree, may be vulnerable to cross-site-request-forgeries (CSRF). CSRF is entirely different to XSS – whereas CSRF exploits the trust a server places in a user, XSS exploits the trust a user places in the server. CSRF attacks are difficult to determine because the HTTP request containing the attack is sent by a trusted user. To reduce the risk of CSRF attacks, we strongly recommend that KnowledgeTree system administrators familiarize themselves with the issue of CSRF, and take the necessary precautions to protect their KnowledgeTree installations from such attacks.
