Configuring KnowledgeTree through the Appliance Management Interface

This procedure configures KnowledgeTree settings through the Appliance Management Interface.


Perform the following steps:


1. Boot the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance on the server where it is installed.


2. On the client machine, use your Web browser to navigate to the administration interface URL displayed on the Appliance command line interface on the Server at: To administer this appliance, please use a web browser to navigate to ...


3. On the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance Management Interface login page, enter your administrator name and password to log in.

Note: The Appliance default passwords are displayed on the Server command line  
interface: 
The default KnowledgeTree user is 'admin' with a password 'admin'. 
The default rAA user is 'admin' with a password of 'password'. 
The default system login is 'root' with no password

4. Click KnowledgeTree Configuration on the Administration menu on the left of the page to expand this menu item for configuring the following items:


Authentication - Use this page to define a number of days after which users who use the built-in authentication provider are forced to change their password. Enter 0 days to never force password change. The default is 0.


Cache - Use this page to define whether to enable caching. The default is Yes.


Dashboard - Use this page to define whether to always display the 'Checked-out Documents' dashlet. The default is No.


Email - The following settings are configurable on this page:

    • SMTP server
    • SMTP port
    • Whether or not authentication is required to connect to SMTP (default is No)
    • SMTP username
    • SMTP password
    • The originating email address
    • The originating 'email from' name
    • Whether to allow users to send attachments from the document management system (default is No)
    • Whether to allow KnowledgeTree users to send email to any email address (default is No)
    • Whether to always send email from the predefined emailFrom address, even if the sending user is unidentifiable (default is No)
    • Whether to allow users to only send emails to those in the same groups as them (default is No).


Export - Use this page to define the encoding to use in bulk export plugin (Default: UTF-8)


I18N - Use this page to ...

    • define the default language for the interface. Default is English.
    • define whether to enable searches of Ideographic Languages - if your language does not have distinguishable words (typically, there is no space character), you need to set this to true to enable the Search function capable of dealing with this. Please note that this Search is effective, but slower. (Default: No)


Session - Use this page to ...

    • Define the number of seconds after which the session times out
    • Define whether to allow anonymous login - only set this to Yes if you understand the security system that KnowledgeTree uses, and have sensibly applied the roles 'Everyone' and 'Authenticated Users'. (Default: No)


Tweaks - Use this page to define ...

    • whether to enable PHP error logging to the log/php_error_log file. (Default: No)
    • whether to display the root folder (first unit) as soon as the user clicks 'Browse Documents'. If this is set to Yes the user is taken directly to their unit folder. (Default: No)
    • whether bulk operations should generate a transaction notice on each item, or only on the folder. (Default: No)


User Interface - the following settings are configurable:

    • Add your company logo - click the Browse button to locate your logo on your machine. The logo must be 50px tall, on a white background.
    • Define the width of the logo, in pixels.
    • Define alternative text for the logo, for accessibility purposes.
    • Define whether to use the additional IE-specific GIF theme overrides - note that using the overrides may prevent arbitrary theme packs from working without having GIF versions available. (Default: Yes)
    • Whether to restrict to searches on users and groups pages. (Default:No)
    • Whether to automatically refresh the page after the session would have expired. Default: No)
    • Whether to use a condensed admin user interface Note: The condensed administrative interface is a more compact version of the administrative interface. (Default: No)
    • Whether to allow 'open' from downloads. Changing this to Yes will prevent (most) browsers from giving users the 'open' option. (Default: No)


User Preferences - Use this page to ...

    • define the minimum password length
    • define whether to apply the minimum password length to the Admin user while creating / editing accounts. By default, Admins can create users with shorter passwords. (Default: No)
    • whether to restrict users from accessing their preferences menus (Default: No)

    • upload expiry time
    • download expiry time
    • random key
