Configuring KnowledgeTree Appliance

This procedure configures the Appliance framework for KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance, using the Appliance Configuration Wizard.

For more information about working in the Appliance Management Interface, use  
the Help button at the bottom left of the Management Interface to view the online  
Appliance Interface User Guide.


Perform the following steps:


1. Open the KnowledgeTree Appliance Management Console:

1.1 On the Server, launch the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance.

1.2 On your client machine, use your Web browser to navigate to the administration interface URL displayed on the Appliance command line interface on the Server at: To administer this appliance, please use a web browser to navigate to ...

Note: 
The Appliance default passwords are displayed on the Server command line interface: 
The default KnowledgeTree user is 'admin' with a password 'admin'. 
The default rAA user is 'admin' with a password of 'password'. 
The default system login is 'root' with no password

2. On the Appliance Administrator Interface login page, enter your administrator credentials to log in.

Note: 
The initial, default login credentials: username 'admin'; password 'password'.


3. Is this ...

  • a new instance of KnowledgeTree Appliance? Go to step 4.
  • an updated version of KnowledgeTree Appliance, which includes new or modified functions? The Appliance Configuration Wizard opens, providing only those pages of the Wizard where you will need to configure the new or modified functionality. Find out more about configuring the Appliance by clicking the Help button at the bottom left of the screen to access the Appliance Management Interface User Guide.
  • neither of the above? In this case, it's likely that you are accessing the Appliance Management Interface to verify or change the existing configuration. Find out more about configuring the Appliance by clicking the Help button at the bottom left of the screen to open the Appliance Management Interface User Guide.

4. The KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance Configuration Wizard opens. Click through the pages of the Wizard to define the initial configuration for the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance Framework.

4.1 On the first page of the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance Configuration Wizard, click OK.

4.2 Change your password. When you're done, click Change password.

Note: 
When booting your virtual Appliance the first time, you must set your root password. This 
prevents unauthorized access to KnowledgeTree Appliance, by anyone else with physical 
access to the machine. 

4.3 Configure Email.

4.3.1 In the Mail Relay field, specify a Server address with a valid hostname, for receiving email notifications.

4.3.2 In the Mail From field, define an originating email address.

Note: All applicable notifications from this system will originate from the email address  
specified.

4.3.3 Click OK to save your settings.

4.4 Add one or more Email Notification Addresses:

4.4.1 Type the first email address in the text box; then, click Add.

4.4.2 To add another address, click Add another email address. Define the address; then, click Add. Repeat this step to add additional addresses. Use the edit / remove links adjacent to each address to change or remove it.

4.4.3 Click Save when you're done.

4.5 Configure Networking:

4.5.1 Configure KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance computer's network parameters

4.5.2 Review current settings on the following fields:

  • Host Name
  • DNS Search Domain
  • DNS Server(s)
  • Gateway
Note: To modify any of the fields, move your mouse over the fields to display the  
edit link. Click the link to display the editing screen. The following configuration 
options are available:

4.5.2.1 Select Get hostname from DHCP.

4.5.2.2 Change the Host Name - the KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance computer's network host name.

4.5.2.3 Change the DNS Search Domain - the local domain for which short name queries are performed.

4.5.2.4 Modify the DNS Server(s) - the domain name server for host name lookups: Add another DNS Server, edit, or remove.

4.5.2.5 Define a default gateway.

4.5.3 Click OK.

4.6 Review the current settings on the following fields:

  • IP Address
  • Netmask
  • Gateway
Note: To modify any of the fields, move your mouse over the fields to display the  
edit link. Click the link to display the editing screen. 

The following configuration options are available:

4.6.1 Configure the interface - Click the DHCP radio button to have the interface accept configuration information from a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server, or click Configure manually to specify interface configuration information.

4.6.2 Configure the IP Address - define an IP Address if you're manually configuring the network interface.

4.6.3 Configure the Netmask - define the subnetwork mask (Netmask) if you're manually configuring the network interface.

4.6.4 Configure the default gateway - define a default gateway IP address if you're manually configuring the network interface.

4.6.5 Click OK.

4.6.6 Click the Restart icon to apply configuration changes now (this restarts the network interface); or, click Done.

4.7 Configure the HTTP/HTTPs proxy servers used by KnowledgeTree Open Source Appliance. For each proxy you're using, enter information in the following fields. When you're done, click OK.

  • IP address or hostname
  • port number
  • username
  • password
Note: To stop using a proxy, clear its hostname and port field. Enter usernames and  
passwords if your network proxy requires authentication. 

4.8 Configure Backups:

4.8.1 Enable Backup Schedule - define whether to enable a backup schedule

4.8.2 If you're enabling a backup schedule, define ...

  • time period - daily, weekly, monthly
  • number of backups to store
  • backup location - define a backup type, connection host, connection path.

4.8.3 Click Save.

5. Go to Configuring KnowledgeTree through the Appliance Management Interface.
