KnowledgeTree Server and Tools

Ensure that your environment meets at least the minimum platform requirements.

KnowledgeTree Tools

When installing KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows, please run setup.exe, and not the MSI  
file.

How do I install KnowledgeTree Commercial Edition?

1. Download all KnowledgeTree Commercial components:

KnowledgeTree Client Tools for Windows (Note: Run setup.exe)
KnowledgeTree DWI Service - optional
KnowledgeTree License (SMB/Enterprise, or Enterprise Trial)
KnowledgeTree server

2. Install all downloaded KnowledgeTree Commercial components:

3. Add your license in the web interface DMS Administration module

4. Configure a connection from KnowledgeTree Explorer to the KnowledgeTree server

Upgrade Notes

Please backup your repository before upgrading.
Upgrades of Beta and Release Candidates to Latest Stable Release are not supported.

Note: On some systems, the Upgrade Installer is not automatically stopping the MySQL process. Please 
ensure that the MySQL process for KnowledgeTree is stopped before upgrading. 
See Important Upgrade Notes for KnowledgeTree.

KnowledgeTree Server

New PHP5 and MySQL5 stack enhances performance and stability, and supports Windows® Vista®.
New search engine – includes offline document indexing, a search query builder, ranked results, wild cards, and result snippets.
EXIF Indexer for TIFF and JPG files extracts the metadata embedded by some scanners and digital cameras.
Improvements to KnowledgeTree's web interface:
- Bulk Actions now available on the Search Results page and Browse Documents
- Additional workflow triggers, such as 'Copy Workflow', which makes a copy of a document when it reaches a specified workflow state.
Progress bars show the status of tasks in progress.
Ability to delete users from the system.
A Task Scheduler that allows you to create Plugins for setting up custom, pre-defined, time-based tasks that you may want to run automatically within KnowledgeTree.
Custom Document Numbering plugin – create your own numbering schemes by document type to use as the KnowledgeTree document IDs
Document Version Comparison – generates a document through OpenOffice, showing content changes between any two versions of a document with the same mime type, and allows output to a downloadable PDF
Conditional Metadata – a new fieldset type that allows you to define master Lookup fields with associated lookup values; the lookup values that display are dependent on the lookup fields selected, and you can configure the order in which the lookup fields are presented to users for the purpose of entering document metadata.

KTC-418 Ubuntu: Upgrade from OSS3.3.7 to COM 3.5.2.2008-03-02-183928 failed. Fixed.

KTC-415 Cannot upgrade OSS 3.4.6 to Commercial 3.5.2 on openSUSE. Fixed.

KTC-414 Plain text files produced error in document comparison. Fixed.

KTC-413 Commercial Installer should not say (Community Edition) but (Unlicensed). Fixed.

KTC-412 Dashlets - mail server status and licence have white streaks. Fixed.

KTC-409 dmsctl restart lucene does not work as expected. Fixed.

KTC-408 Cannot locate binary for PostScript Text Extractor (pstotext). Fixed.

KTC-403 One is able to make a checked out document immutable. Fixed.

KTC-401 Moving a folder to itself returns success while it failed. Fixed.

KTC-400 Exception thrown when clicking on a document's version history link. Fixed.

KTC-399 Bulk checkout: when you checkout an already checked out document you get an information alert that is not clear. Fixed.

KTC-398 One pdf document is indexed while another is not. Fixed.

KTC-395 Unable to compare content versions for a txt doc or an Open Office document. Fixed.

KTC-392 (related call: KTC-383) Add mechanism to support the old license. Fixed.

KTC-391 The 'System Folder Utilisation' and 'Document Indexer Statistics'(FF2.0) dashlet appear with only half the borders on the Dashboard only when no license is active. Fixed.

KTC-390 The 'Orphaned folders' and 'Storage Utilisation' dashlets appear without borders on the Dashboard. Fixed.

KTC-387 Duplication of the log-in footer after logging out from languages other than English. Fixed.

KTC-385 Dashlets are missing after upgrade. Fixed.

KTC-384 Update German i18n plugin to use correct German in name. Fixed.

KTC-383 License Mechanism modification. Fixed.

KTC-382 The version history dies if the document comparison plugin is enabled but no license is installed. Fixed.

KTC-381 Rereading the plugins results in a DB_error. Fixed.

KTC-380 Copyright info still notes 2007 in the footer of the Webbrowser interface. Fixed.

KTC-378 A Pear fatal error when attempting to create a new authentication provider. Fixed.

KTC-374 Ensure custom numbering plugin uses correct slashes in paths. Fixed.

KTC-351 Top Download Dashlet takes a long time to load. Fixed.

KTC-341 The user history plugin breaks the dashboard. Fixed.

KTC-334 KTFieldset::getByNamespace does not like exotic characters. Cannot Reproduce.

KTC-333 Error converting a word doc to pdf in Ubuntu 7.10. Duplicate.

KTC-331 Bulk upload throws an exception shown on attached screenshot. Fixed.

KTC-327 The Document Indexing Diagostics does not show problems when in reality they exist. Fixed.

KTC-322 Email document does not allow Filter on user name. Fixed.

KTC-311 Browser crash after user with no permissions attempts to log onto KT. Fixed.

KTC-306 Clicking on the RSS icon throws an exception. Fixed.

KTC-300 Move the license check into the run_setup function in the commercial plugins. Fixed.

KTC-287 Unable to bind the given port number. Error when upgrading 3.4.5 OEM with SSL support.

KTC-283 Creating a folder with like Admin's changes to Admin\'s. Fixed.

KTC-262 Action Restriction section of a work flow there are extra two extra columns as well as one that says "no name" after you select "Edit Action". Fixed.

KTC-244 Records are duplicated on the RSS feed for a subscription on a document. Fixed.

KTC-227 Widget broken. Fixed.

KTC-223 The section [KTtoolsSettings] does not appear in the server ini file after an upgrade. Fixed.

KTC-188 File using Internationalisation string as title and/or filename causes bulk export to break. Fixed.

KTC-180 The section [KTWEBDAVSettings] does not appear in the ini file after an upgrade from 3.3.7OSS to 3.4.2CE. Fixed.

KTC-177 RSS feed appears wrong when launched from the 'Actions on this folder' when the folder has the internationalisation string as its name or the name of any of its subfolders. Fixed.

KTC-173 The Title of the RSS feed seems to be limited to 20 characters and names longer than that is cut-short. Fixed.

BBS-1265 Metadata Capture Failure followed by a Word crash after saving a new document to the Root. Fixed.

BBS-1262 Saving document to the root folder in the DMS results in a problem saving the metadata. Fixed.

BBS-1261 After upgrading from Fedora COM 3.4.6 to COM 3.5.2 and installing KTE KTtools-3.5.2-RC14, user could not upload, create or view files in KTE. Fixed.

BBS-1260 Upgrading from Windows OSS 3.4.6 to OSS 3.5.2 and installing KTE KTtools-3.5.2-RC14 cannot establish a connection. Fixed.

BBS-1254 Search in KTE only seems to be working in Windows Vista Office 2003. Fixed.

BBS-1253 Exception found [The username or password is invalid: Session is invalid] when attempting to save attachments to DMS. Fixed.

BBS-1250 Modify the way KT documents are attached to a new email message in outlook. Fixed.

BBS-1235 R-Click > Copy followed by R-Click Paste does not copy the selected file. Fixed.

BBS-1234 OfficeMetadataCapture set to off but on starting Office applications I still get prompted to enter metadata. Fixed.

BBS-1233 When using the 'Open in KowledgeTree web' R-click function fails when the user is not logged into KTDMS web interface. Fixed.

BBS-1232 Connection error dialog with 'object reference not set to an instance of an object' error is shown when allowRemeberPassword=FALSE. Fixed.

BBS-1230 Cancelling document upload process at the point of Capture Metadata does not work. Fixed.

BBS-1228 Exception when selecting to open a document as Read-Only after has been saved to the DMS. Fixed.

BBS-1227 Exception thrown when saving Word documents using KT Save. Fixed.

BBS-1226 Exception when attempting to checkout four documents out together via KTE. Fixed.

BBS-1225 Exception when uploading a doc into KTE and selecting a Doc type with name ´`""\/:&;!.~,$%()|<>#=[]*? Fixed

BBS-1224 Exception when selected a doc typ with an associated Fieldset that has no fieldset members. Fixed.

BBS-1219 KT Tools - document still added if cancel during add document. Fixed.

BBS-1218 Workflow names not listed in the Document properties dialog for a document. Fixed.

BBS-1217 Document types not listed in the drop down on the Metadata Capture dialog. Fixed.

BBS-1192 Unhandled exception occurs when using the option to 'Insert pages before here' during scanning: 'Exception found [Index was out of range. ....]' Fixed.

BBS-1165 Scanner Wizard: number of pages not updated. Fixed.

BBS-1155 R-click Paste throws NullReferenceException. Fixed.

BBS-1107 Set focus to required field and change the colour. Fixed.

BBS-1079 Update KTtools Search to Utilize the New Search Module Developed for 3.5. Fixed.

BBS-1053 CLONE -Errors Trying to Save Email from KT Tools 3.4.2 (SUP-392). Fixed.

BBS-1009 Folder or files with the Test Character set as their names cannot be manipulated in WebDAV in any way. Fixed.

Known Issues

*KTS-2916 When adding a new lookup value for a fieldset, and the name of the lookup value is longer than the allowable space in the text entry field, the system automatically truncates the excess part of the first lookup value name and adds it to the next line. When saving the lookup value, the system creates a second lookup value out of the truncated text of the first lookup value name.

*KTC-217 - Inline Viewing of Tiff Images does not work in Windows Vista. Inline viewing, which is available on the Document Details page in the web interface, displays a reduced image of the currently selected document.

*Upgrade installer does not stop MySQL processes, causing upgrade to fail

On some systems (Linux and Windows / Community Edition and Commercial Edition), the upgrade installer is not automatically stopping the MySQL process and this is causing upgrades to 3.5.2 to fail. Please ensure that the MySQL process for KnowledgeTree is stopped before upgrading. See Important Upgrade Notes for KnowledgeTree to find out more about stopping MySQL.
